This manual is about how to make an edit, be it in film or video. It does not matter f the method of joinng pictures together is by scissors or laser beam, the problem of learning how to be a good editor remains the same. I have concentraed on where and how an edit is made and not about the machine with which it is done.
It is written mainly for beginner. I am aware that the experienced editor will be able to disprove many of the practices I describe. Be that as it may, the beginner still has to learn good basic practices from somewhere. So I asked myself the simple question, "What do I have to learn, to be able to make one good edit between two shots?" The contents of this manual make up the answer. I have left out programme an editing, split edits, pattern editing, pace and so many other important elements, because they are subjects to be dealt with on a different level.
Finally, it is worth repeating the words of a respected editor, now retired, but still passionately keen on the craft. Among many others, it was he who helped me the most with the basic contents. He read the draft and pronounced, "I wish someone had told me all those things and that simply, when I started, all those years ago". This manual comes too late for him, but perhaps not for those who are beginning a career in post production,...//Yeni
